Odd news

The strangest stories of the week, from serious sources.

What this is, and what it is not

The questions are about the past week, from Friday to Thursday, topped up with things that happened this week in earlier years. This edition puts British stories next to news from the rest of the world. Every question has a source, but a question can still be wrong now and then. The source is shown on the phone after each answer, so the room can see where it comes from.

There is also an international edition, with news that travels anywhere: playklapp.com/friday. And a Norwegian one: playklapp.com/fredag.

What a question looks like

The old London Bridge was sold in 1968. Where does it stand today?

Dubai · Tokyo · Sydney · Arizona

Answer: Arizona. Robert McCulloch paid £1.02 million. He always denied the rumour that he thought he was buying Tower Bridge.

What is Scotland's national animal?

The red deer · The wildcat · The unicorn · The Highland cow

Answer: The unicorn. The unicorn is an old Scottish symbol. Two unicorns supported the royal arms of the Scottish kings.

With or without a big screen

The question and the four answers are on every phone as well. A big screen helps, but the quiz does not need one.

  • In the same room. A TV or projector shows the question, and everyone answers on their own phone.
  • On a video call. Share the big screen in the meeting. The people in the room and the people at home join on the same code.
  • In the hall. One code on the big screen, and the whole hall joins on it.
  • Phones only. No screen at all: everyone reads the question on their own phone.

Free, every Friday

This week's quiz is free, and it stays free. Twenty questions every Friday, the same for everyone, no account and no card. Put it on a screen, let the room scan the code, and press start.
