klapp and Kahoot!

What differs, and what they do better.

Kahoot! is the quiz most rooms already know. klapp is a newer quiz. This page is for the person who runs a quiz or Q&A in a meeting, a class or a talk, knows Kahoot, and wants to see what differs. Every statement about Kahoot below links to Kahoot's own pages and carries the date it was read. Where those pages do not say, we write “not stated”.

The short version

Two differences. klapp has no participant limit, free or paid, and in its paid Q&A klapp drafts each answer from your own slides and shows the quote it used. klapp is paid per event. Kahoot! 360, the plans Kahoot sells for work, is priced per licence and billed annually, or per one-time event, and each plan has a participant limit. Kahoot does more: more question types, reports, branding, training courses and a library of ready-made games.

Sources for the Kahoot! 360 column: Kahoot! 360 pricing for individuals, pricing for one-time events and Kahoot! 360 for Enterprises, all read on 13 October 2026. Prices are the ones Kahoot showed a visitor in Norway that day, in Norwegian kroner, and three of them were shown as reduced; the table gives both numbers. Kahoot’s prices are converted at Norges Bank’s rate for 13 October 2026 (1 EUR = 10.6685 kr), rounded to the nearest euro, with the amount in kroner in brackets. klapp’s euro prices are its own, tax included, sold outside Norway through Link, Stripe’s merchant of record. The klapp column is from pricing. klapp prices are the amount charged; Cadence AS is not registered for VAT, so none is added. The table is about the plans Kahoot sells for work. Kahoot's free plan and its plans for teachers are in the sections below.

Where the questions come from

Kahoot: you host a kahoot from your own library or from its Discover page of ready-made games, and you sign in to host. Kahoot's hosting steps, read 19 September 2026.

klapp: you type a topic, paste text or hand over a file, and a set of questions is written in a minute or two. You read it before anyone plays and drop what you do not want. There is no library to pick from. Players join with a six-digit code: no download, no account, no e-mail. The host does not sign in to run a quiz either; signing in is only for events and the paid Q&A.

Speed and the clock

Kahoot can already turn off speed points. In its Classic mode, points fall as the timer counts down, so a faster correct answer scores more. Its Accuracy mode gives one point per correct answer and no speed bonus, and in a live Accuracy game the host can switch on Unlimited time, so players take as long as they need. For assigned kahoots the timer can be turned off. Accuracy mode and Kahoot's accessibility page, read 19 September 2026. Kahoot's settings page says some settings depend on the subscription; we could not tell from these pages which plans include Accuracy mode.

So the difference is not that one has speed points and the other cannot. It is the default and the design. klapp has no speed points at all, in every game; there is no mode to choose. By default there is a 20-second countdown, because it is what makes the moment tighten. The host can hide it on the phones and on the big screen, but hiding it does not stop it: the answer window still closes on time. While answers are open, the host can give the room 10 more seconds, and again if that is not enough.

Both can remove the time limit. Kahoot has Unlimited time, in live Accuracy games. klapp has wait for everyone, a switch the host can turn on in any game, added 19 September 2026: no countdown on any screen, and answers close when every connected player has answered, or when the host closes them. It takes effect from the next question. Why there are no speed points: why klapp gives no points for speed.

How many can play

Kahoot's cap depends on the account type as well as the plan. Live limits from How many participants can play a kahoot?, read 19 September 2026; the page said it was updated the day before.

Free plan (Kahoot! Go): 10 players for personal use, students and higher education; 40 for K-12 teachers. A free business user can host 3 players on games they create themselves. The same page's FAQ says ready-made games from its Kahoot! at Work channel allow up to 50; a note elsewhere on the page says 3 for games from the Discover page.

Personal and teacher plans: Plus Bronze 50, Plus Silver 100, Plus Gold 200, One 800, One Max 2,000, One Ultra 4,000. School and university plans: EDU Standard 800 and EDU Pro 2,000 live; K-12 EDU Pro allows 10,000 in an assigned kahoot.

Business plans: 360 Pro Start 50, Standard 200, Plus 1,000, Max 2,000, Ultra 5,000; 360 Spirit 400 and Spirit Premium 2,000; one-time event plans from 200 to 5,000. 360 Express allows 15 players, in sessions of at most 15 minutes.

klapp: no participant limit by design. The largest test so far, on 13 September 2026 (commit f427ff0): 10,240 synthetic clients connected at once from ten load machines, with zero lost answers. Synthetic means scripted connections, not people. No real room that size has played klapp.

When Kahoot is the better choice

You want more than a quiz, polls and Q&A. Kahoot! 360 has word clouds, brainstorms, open-ended questions and surveys, reports after the session, your logo and colours, and training courses with certificates from Pro Plus, per its pricing page read 13 October 2026. klapp has word clouds, open text and a one-file report per event, but no brainstorm, survey, training courses or logo on an event.

Your organisation asks for single sign-on or a security report. Kahoot! 360 for Enterprises lists single sign-on, SCIM provisioning and a SOC 2 Type 2 report, per its enterprise page read 13 October 2026. klapp has neither. The event package is €29 per event outside Norway, sold through Link.

It is built and sold for large rooms. Kahoot sells plans for up to 5,000 live players, per the player-limit page above. Our largest number is a load test, not a room.

Accessibility is documented. Kahoot says it aims for WCAG 2.2 level AA, publishes an Accessibility Conformance Report for instructors and one for participants, supports screen readers on both screens, pairs every answer colour with a shape, and offers Unlimited time in Accuracy mode. Kahoot's accessibility page, read 19 September 2026. klapp has published no conformance report.

More ways to play. Kahoot has assigned, self-paced kahoots as well as live games, a team mode with a short discussion time before each answer, and a player identifier that combines reports across games. Live game settings, read 19 September 2026. klapp is live only, and keeps no results per player after a game. A signed-in host gets numbers for the round: how many played and how many answers were correct.

A library. On Kahoot you can host a game someone else wrote. In klapp every set is new, which is why the host has to read it first.

When klapp is the better choice

You do not know how many will come. There is no participant limit in klapp, so the size of the room never decides the plan. Our largest number is a load test, not a room, as the section on how many can play says.

You want help answering the room. In the paid Q&A the room asks, klapp drafts each answer from your own slides and shows the quote it used, and you decide what goes on the screen.

You give a talk now and then. Q&A is paid per session, from €12. A quiz, and an event with polls, is free. Nothing renews.

You want no points for speed, in every game. There is no mode to choose. How a talk runs is on klapp for presentations.

Money

Kahoot sells subscriptions. How many of its users pay, from its own quarterly reports: about 4.3% in Q2 2022 and 5.5% in Q1 2023, our arithmetic on figures read 18 September 2026.

The klapp quiz is free to host and to play, for any size of room. That is a statement about today, not a promise about next year. What is paid, Q&A for a talk among it, is paid by the host; players never pay. The prices are on pricing, and what is free is on free.

Questions

Can Kahoot turn off points for speed? Yes. Its Accuracy mode gives one point per correct answer and no speed bonus. Classic mode still rewards speed.

How many players can a free Kahoot account host? 10 or 40 live players depending on the account type, and 3 on games a free business user creates, per Kahoot's page read 19 September 2026.

Do players need an account for klapp? No. A six-digit code and a browser.

What does klapp cost? Nothing to play or to host a quiz, today. Q&A for a talk is paid per session; see pricing.

How current is this page? The Kahoot! 360 pricing pages behind the table were read on 13 October 2026. The help pages behind the other sections were read on 19 September 2026 and have not been read again for this update. “Not stated” means the pages we read did not say; it does not mean Kahoot cannot do it. A date here changes only when the page behind it has been read again.

Free to play. Free to host.
