klapp and Wayground, formerly Quizizz
What differs, and what they do better.
Wayground is the classroom quiz that was called Quizizz until June 2025. klapp is a newer quiz. Every statement about Wayground below links to Wayground's own pages or its own press release, and each was read on 19 September 2026. Where we could not confirm something, we say so.
Quizizz is now Wayground
Quizizz announced its new name on 24 June 2025, in its own press release. Its rebrand page says accounts, ownership and the legal entity stay the same, the old site redirects, and students can still join through joinmyquiz.com. Both read 19 September 2026. Anything below that says Wayground is also true of what used to be called Quizizz.
Where the questions come from
Both can write the questions for you. Wayground AI generates a quiz from a prompt or pasted text (up to 10,000 characters), an uploaded document (PDF, PowerPoint, Word or an image; the first 16,000 characters are read), a web page, a YouTube video, or, for maths and science teachers in the USA, a curriculum. You edit the result and publish it to your library before you play it. Wayground AI, read 19 September 2026. Its free Basic plan lists AI for generating and importing content, per the plans page, same date.
klapp: you type a topic, paste text or hand over a file, and a set of questions is written in a minute or two. You read it before anyone plays and drop what you do not want. There is no library to save to or pick from: every game is a new set. So the difference is not that one generates and the other does not. Wayground is a teaching tool that includes generation; klapp is a live quiz built around it.
Points, speed and the clock
Wayground can already turn off speed points. Its Question Timer has three settings. With the timer on and late answers allowed, a correct answer scores 600, plus up to 400 more for answering quickly. With the timer on and answers locked when time runs out, a correct answer scores 600; the page gives no speed bonus for this setting. With the timer off, a correct answer scores 600 and speed is not considered. Session settings, read 19 September 2026. A second article lists these timer options under its paid Individual (Super) and School and District plans; Grade questions using timer, same date. We could not tell from these pages whether the free Basic plan can switch the timer off, or which setting is the default.
Corrected 19 September 2026. This section said that both timer-on settings add up to 400 points for speed. Wayground's session settings page gives the bonus only when late answers are allowed; with answers locked at the end of the timer, a correct answer scores a flat 600.
klapp has no speed points at all, in every game; there is no setting to find. Points come from how sure you were, and the reveal shows who said they were certain. You lose by being wrong, or by being too sure, never by being slow. By default there is a 20-second countdown. The host can hide it on the phones and on the big screen, give the room 10 more seconds while answers are open, or turn on wait for everyone: no countdown on any screen, and answers close when every connected player has answered, or when the host closes them.
Wayground has other ways to move a score: power-ups such as 2X, which doubles the points for a correct answer, and Strike and Shield, where a player can strike down another player's score, per the session settings page above. Why klapp gives no points for speed: the research page.
How many can play, and how they join
Teacher plans. The free Basic plan allows 100 students, per the plans page. Understanding Wayground plans (updated 28 August 2026) gives up to 100 participants per session on Starter (Basic), and up to 1,000 on both Individual (Super) and School and District. The plans page lists School and District students as unlimited. The two pages differ, and we report both. Read 19 September 2026.
Business plans. Essential allows 150 participants per session and Pro 1,000, per Participant limits in Wayground for Business, read 19 September 2026.
Accounts. Wayground's steps for joining a session begin with signing up or logging in to a student account. Its Playground games say students can join as guests with no account, and add that phones are not supported for those games. Limiting how many attempts a student gets requires a login, per the session settings page. All read 19 September 2026.
klapp: players join with a six-digit code in a phone's browser: no download, no account, no e-mail. The host does not sign in to run a quiz either; signing in is only for events, the event package and the paid Q&A. There is no participant limit by design. The largest test so far, on 13 September 2026 (commit f427ff0): 10,240 synthetic clients connected at once from ten load machines, with zero lost answers. Synthetic means scripted connections, not people. No real room that size has played klapp.
What Wayground does better
A library. School and District plans include over 40 million standards-aligned resources, and the free plan gives limited access, per the plans page, read 19 September 2026. On Wayground you can play something a colleague wrote and checked. In klapp every set is new, which is why the host has to read it first.
Homework, not only live games. A teacher can assign a session with a start and end time, allow late submissions, and set how many attempts each student gets, per the session settings page. Live, it has a teacher-led mode and student-paced Classic, Mastery Peak, Test and Team modes, per Live session modes. Both read 19 September 2026. klapp is live only.
It fits into a school. The plans page lists Google Classroom sync, Canvas and Schoology through LTI 1.3, Clever and ClassLink rostering, standards-aligned reports, longitudinal growth graphs, reports you can share with colleagues and parents, and an admin dashboard for schools and districts. klapp connects to none of these and keeps no results per player after a game. A signed-in host gets numbers for the round: how many played and how many answers were correct.
Accessibility is documented. Wayground says it is guided by WCAG 2.2 level A and AA, has completed a VPAT covering WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 level A and AA, and describes Accommodation Profiles with more than 25 features, including read-aloud, extra time per question, fewer answer choices, the OpenDyslexic font and removing the leaderboard for one student. Accessibility and inclusion statement, updated 22 August 2025 and read 19 September 2026. klapp has published no conformance report.
More sources and more question types. Its AI reads web pages and YouTube videos as well as documents, and School and District plans list over 20 question types.
Money
Wayground's Basic plan is free: the plans page says free for every teacher, with no credit card. School and District plans are sold by quote. Wayground for Business lists Essential at USD 125 a month billed monthly, or USD 75 a month billed yearly, and Pro at USD 1,500 a year, per the business participant-limits page above. Read 19 September 2026.
The klapp quiz is free to host and to play, for any size of room. That is a statement about today, not a promise about next year. The one thing sold is Q&A for a talk, paid by the host per session; players never pay. The prices are on pricing, and what is free is on free.
